The flock consists of the pedigree sheep, Groot Heideschaap. These austere sheep thrive on sparse soils and eat a variety of vegetation well. They also eat tree scrub very well.
In the breeding period, pedigree Groot Heideschaap rams are used. For this purpose the association “Groot Heideschaap”, has a pool with different bloodlines, which rotate through the different flocks, with this we hope to breed the most beautiful and best ewes.
As Scheperij Salland also provides various activities, we have some other special breeds apart from our heathland sheep. Some Shetland and Gotland sheep for their wool characteristics for the scheduled fleece felting workshops. There Welsh Mountain Badgerface sheep, Skuddes and crosses of the two. We use these for training purposes and demos with the dogs. we also recently acquired Rakka sheep, simply because they are so beautiful with their appealing horns. these will also be used for demos and training.
Scheperij Salland has the quality mark 'so-unsuspected company' and does everything it can to ensure the healthiest possible herd. All animals are also vaccinated against Q fever every year to ensure that the herd can come into contact with the public without danger.
The welfare and health of animals and humans are our top priority and there is always close contact with our veterinarians.
